Berlin

Berlin the dynamic and cosmopolitan capital of Germany is a city of culture with international appeal, allowing for every kind of lifestyle. East meets West in the metropolis at the heart of a changing Europe. With a population of 3.4 million, Berlin is the country's largest city, and the second most populous city in the European Union.

Germany has had a seminal impact on Continental history. From Charlemagne and the Holy Roman Empire to Otto von Bismarck's German Reich, Nazism and the rise and fall of the Berlin Wall, no other nation has moulded Europe the way Germany has. The political and cultural developments of the 19th and 20th century are visible throughout Berlin’s cityscape, reflecting both the history of architecture and various approaches to dealing with the consequences of war and destruction. The old has been restored, and joined by a new generation of structures. The Potsdamer Platz, the heart of Berlin before the Second World War, is once again a focal point a poignant symbol for blossoming Berlin.

Congress participants will find a vibrant and creative environment that is supported by three major universities with about 132,000 students and approximately 22,000 persons working in its universities. The rich cultural heritage of the city is particularly fascinating with first class music, museums, movies, and monuments, theatre and sightseeing allowing for every interest and taste.
