Svein Johannessen(Norway) Co-Chair

Svein Johannessen, Ph.D. is Director of Research at the National Center for Epilepsy in Sandvika, Norway. Dr. Johannessen has served for many years as a member of the Editorial Boards of several journals, including “Epilepsia”, “Therapeutic Drug Monitoring” and “Epilepsy Research”.
He has been President of the Norwegian ILAE Chapter for 12 years. He received the “Ambassador for Epilepsy” award from ILAE and IBE in 1982. He has been a member of the Commission on Antiepileptic Drugs and the Commission on Education.
Dr. Johannessen was one of the founding members (treasurer) of the European Epilepsy Academy (EUREPA) in 1996 and member of the Executive Committee until 2006. He has been a member of the Regional Associations of the IBE, the Chair of the European Advisory Council (EAC) and is at present Secretary of the Council. Since 1994 he has been a member (Treasurer) of the Commission of European Affairs (CEA), the Chair since 2002 and is at present the Past-Chair.
Dr. Johannessen has been member of Organizing Committees and invited speaker to congresses in many countries. He was Secretary-General of the 20th International Epilepsy Congress in Oslo, Norway, 1993.
His research interests have been focused mainly on treatment of epilepsy with special reference to clinical pharmacology, and therapeutic drug monitoring. He has co-edited several books on epilepsy, contributed to textbooks and authored a great number of publications.
