Married with two daughters.
Graduated from Bursa, Uludag University, Medical Faculty in 1984, worked in different cities in Anatolia for compulsory service for two years and completed neurology training in Bakirkoy State Hospital for Neurological and Psychiatric disorders in 1991. After receiving William G. Lennox International Clinical Research Fellowship provided by American Epilepsy Foundation (EFA), worked in University of Virginia, Comprehensive Epilepsy Center in 1991-92. Later stayed as visiting professor in UCLA-Epilepsy center in 1996. Achieved associate professorship in 1996 and full professorship in 2002 at Istanbul University . Since then working at Istanbul University, Cerrahpasa Medical School, department of Neurology, Epilepsy - EEG section and running an epilepsy outpatient clinic and Epilepsy Surgery program as well as basic science studies. Served for Turkish Epilepsy society and ILAE for many years. Published papers on epilepsy in national and international journals and wrote chapters for some epilepsy books in Turkish. Involved in organization of many national and international meetings and participated in projects including an EU project namely EPICURE.
Currently, acting as President of Turkish Epilepsy society, Secretary for Commission on European Affairs (ILAE), board member of EUREPA, member of different working groups and commissions of ILAE.
